I am an abstract painter who specializes in paintings on silk -- with a twist. My vision is to extend the rich tradition of painting on silk into a vibrant, contemporary art form. I have developed my own, non-conventional approach, bringing a modern sensibility to this ancient discipline.
I am self-taught. I did not grow up living a creative life and never aspired to be an artist, let alone pursue art as a career. Instead, it revealed itself to me. Around the age of 40 I began to explore my inner world and voila, my life "took a right turn."
My inspiration comes from nature and my own spiritual exploration, as well as the textures, colors and earthiness of textiles, and fine crafts like pottery or blown glass. As a textile-based art, my work can come off the walls and into the living space – brightening up a lonely corner, visually separating two rooms, or billowing across a ceiling to soften and anchor the entire space. The effect on the emotional and design-scape can be dramatic.
In addition, I make original clothing for women who aspire to feel beautiful in what they wear. It is truly wearable art.
My mission is very simple but profound: to create beauty that lights up interior spaces and people's lives. I constantly remind myself that this journey is sacred. I paint with joy and enthusiasm, and I am honored if my particular expression of color and fluidity can evoke feelings of warmth, joy, and sensuality. I feel like a visual poet. My artistic goals are to continue to develop my skills and perspective as an artist, master the medium of dye on silk and also explore different forms of art and media.
