About Artwork

This work is based on an original 19th century photograph of a therater performance in Bombay in the 1920s. What is interesting to note is that among an all male cast the artist imposes her own image as the only female enacting the role of a feminine character - something that was a rarity in early years of theater in Colonial India. It was slowly and surely challenged by extremely talented and passionate women actors. The work is an ode to those inspired individuals.

The character photographs of the artist in these series have been shot by Ms Rosy Potter of Wimbledon School of Art with whom the  artist had collaborated.
